Flashback: MICAA ’74

The results in the first week of the 1974 MICAA basketball tournament.


 The Top 10 leading scorers and the team standings after 4 playing days.

The standings in the first half of the Preliminary Round which ended on July 20 are as follows: Crispa-Floro (9-1), Yco, Universal Textiles and Toyota (all tied at 7-3), Concepcion Industries and Mariwasa (tied at 6-4), Consolidated Foods (5-5), Manila Bank (4-6), San Miguel Corp. (3-7), 7-Up (1-9) and E.R Squibb (0-10).

Danny Florencio of U-Tex was the new MICAA single-game record-holder, scoring 49 points in U-Tex’ 118-86 win against E.R Squibb on July 2, surpassing the 43-point output made by Rodolfo Segura of Toyota in the Comets’ 126-102 win over Seven-Up on May 30. Florencio also scored 37 points vs Crispa on July 11 and 36 in U-Tex’ 96-106 loss to Toyota on July 18. Fortunato Co, Jr. had the 3rd-best scoring record with 39 points in Crispa’s only loss in the preliminaries, a 96-99 defeat at the hands of Manila Bank on July 18.

Crispa-Floro had the highest winning score in a 127-100 victory over 7-Up on June 25, followed by Toyota’s 126 points also against 7-Up on May 30. The third highest score was registered by Crispa on June 20, a 123-119 win over Toyota Comets.
